In 1989 Bud Goldfinger was attending an equipment show in Japan and happened upon a small table-top press which was producing unbelievable four-color prepaid telephone cards - unbelievable because the press was only one color with register so good that it looked like four-color process work. Prepaid telephone cards were a huge market in Japan at that time, but nowhere to be seen in the United States. In his inimitable fashion, he thought: "This is a market which will be coming to the US and this is just the press to do short runs."
